Daniel Cáceres Bartra

Daniel Cáceres Bartra is a Peruvian marine biologist and the Latin America Representative for the Sustainable Ocean Alliance (SOA). He leads initiatives to protect marine biodiversity, mobilise young leaders, and influence regional policy decisions. In 2017, he founded SOA Peru, the first international SOA Hub. Daniel has contributed to key achievements in his career, including advocating for deep-sea protection among Latin American nations. He has been recognised with the Earth Champion Award 2024 by Population Matters, named among the 100 Most Committed Climate Action Figures in Latin America in 2023 and 2024, and awarded the Hreljac Medal in 2016 for his influence on sustainability in Peru. Daniel is a certified PADI dive instructor with a passion for marine conservation and climate solutions. He firmly supports marine protected areas as crucial allies in addressing the biodiversity and climate crises. His work also includes co-authoring research on oil spills, marine mammals, and mineral resources. Dedicated to combining innovative approaches with community-led solutions, Daniel strives to inspire action and secure a sustainable future for ocean ecosystems.
