Wei Li is the Senior Manager of the Conservation Project at the China Program of the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), where she leads NRDC’s fishery work in China. Wei is an expert on sustainable fisheries management policy, specializing in comparative analysis of fisheries governance systems from around the world. She has worked with industry experts at home and abroad to introduce international experience in sustainable fishery management to Chinese fisheries experts, including fishery laws in other countries, monitoring, control, and surveillance systems, and fisheries co-management. This information has provided important reference to fisheries reforms in China, including the Total Allowable Catch (TAC) programs that help recover overexploited fish stocks and improve economic efficiency of fishing communities. Combining expertise in science and policy, Wei bridges global best practices and innovative tools with China’s modernization of fisheries governance. Wei has authored peer-reviewed journal articles on marine conservation and columns for China Fisheries News. She holds an MPhil degree in Marine Ecology from the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
