Karlijn Steinbusch

Karlijn Steinbusch is the Director of the Med Sea Alliance, a coalition of 19 organisations dedicated to restoring the health of the Mediterranean Sea. She has been instrumental in convening environmental organisations for developing impactful campaigns that address illegal fishing, expand marine protected areas, and transform unsustainable practices like bottom trawling. Karlijn’s vision for a collaborative approach to conservation stems from her work at Adessium Foundation, where she spearheaded initiatives to close critical funding gaps in Mediterranean marine conservation, rallying funders and stakeholders to amplify impact. Karlijn has over a decade of experience spanning philanthropy, consulting, and coalition-building. Her academic background includes MSc degrees in Environmental Management & Policy and Finance & Investments, demonstrating her interdisciplinary expertise. Karlijn is deeply committed to fostering collaboration across diverse organisations and empowering teams to deliver transformative outcomes. Karlijn is based between Amsterdam and Tarifa. She is avid scuba diver and kitesurfer, drawing inspiration from her personal connection to the ocean.
