Working with diverse and global partners and supporters to ocean change-makers for the long term.
The University of Edinburgh in Scotland is one of the most international universities in the world, with a history of pioneering marine research and a deep commitment to civil society. The genesis for the Ocean Leaders programme draws upon the expertise and enthusiasm of our graduates, colleagues, and international contacts around the world, who are themselves global ocean change-makers. With the first cohort of Ocean Leaders now underway in 2020, our plan is to grow the programme over the following 5 years for an intake of 20 new Ocean Leaders per year, reaching out to a wide range of donors and partners across all sectors and global geographies.

The Edinburgh Ocean Leaders programme also has a shared optimism for the oceans with the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation (FPA2) and the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco, starting with the university hosting the 9th Edition of the Monaco Blue Initiative (MBI) in 2018.

Building on this genesis, the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation with the University of Edinburgh is a foundational partner for the programme’s establishment phase.

Additional support is being provided by Baillie Gifford, the Castansa Trust and other partners for a range of activities and collaborations.

We are actively exploring interdisciplinary partners including businesses, foundations and individuals with a shared interest in healthy oceans for generations to come, as we believe this is the strongest platform for engagement.
