Boris is a geographer and a conservation professional with experience working on marine protected area design and implementation, conservation planning and research. He has worked in the polar regions for 15 years and is an independant consultant for the currently a consultant for WWF Arctic Programme. His recent work with WWF was a plan for a network of priority conservation areas and detailed practical solutions for conservation across the Arctic seas. As an outcome of this planning, two nature reserves have been created and several other areas are in the process of designation. He is also the founder of Systematic Conservation Consultancy, specialising in area-based conservation, strategic planning, analysis, stakeholder engagement facilitation and project management for ocean conservation. Boris has worked in the Arctic, Antarctic and the North Pacific as a marine mammal researcher, an expedition guide and a manager. This has provided him an understanding of the regional problems from the perspective of science, business, local communities, and regional and national authorities.
