Ocean Leaders take part in the 12th Edition of the Monaco Blue Initiative

The Monaco Blue Initiative (MBI), held every year in the framework Monaco Ocean Week, is organised by Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation and Oceanographic Institute – Prince Albert I of Monaco Foundation.

MBI is a unique platform that brings together major players in ocean conservation and governance for debate and analysis of the key challenges facing the future of our ocean.

Three Ocean Leaders will take part in the 12th Edition of MBI on the 22nd March 2021. These Ocean Leaders were selected for their expertise on the session theme:

  • Harriet Harden-Davies is a panelist in the session “The role of international negotiations for better ocean governance”, with keynote speech from Mr John Kerry, Special Presidential Envoy for Climate, U.S. Department of State. The session aims to review high-level international negotiations and frameworks (e.g. UN Ocean Decade, Marine Biodiversity of Areas Beyond National Jurisdiction, COP26) and reflect on how to create synergies between these processes to increase their effectiveness.

  • Bruno Monteferri is a panelist in the session “How to integrate Ocean issues and SDGs (in particular SDG14) into companies’ Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy?”. In this session, panelists will share their experience and feedback of companies involved in the blue economy.
  • Klaas de Voss is a panelist in the session “From blue economy to blue finance: what role does the financial sector need to play in managing risks related to biodiversity loss and financing the sustainable blue economy?”. This session will provide an opportunity for financial actors to express their views on how to direct capital flows towards a true, efficient and transparent blue economy.
