Edinburgh Ocean Leaders (EOL) announces the eight ocean professionals that will make up the 2021 cohort of the EOL executive leadership programme. The Ocean Leaders were found through a global nomination process and chosen to take part in the programme by an international selection panel. They come from eight countries and work in a diverse range of ocean sectors including deep-sea biology, fisheries, environmental law, conservation and the blue economy. To be selected for the programme, the Ocean Leaders have demonstrated exceptional capacity for leadership in their field.
The ethos of EOL is to support globally distributed leadership in situ. The COVID-19 pandemic continues to create new and complex challenges for the ocean. Therefore, supporting the Ocean Leaders wherever they live and work around the world remains a priority for the EOL programme. The Ocean Leaders will attend regular online meetings and take part in bespoke leadership training and professional skills development. They will also have the opportunity for exchanges and discussion with the 2020 Ocean Leader cohort to support the continued growth of the international EOL network. As circumstances for international travel evolve, the EOL team will continue to assess the possibility for the Ocean Leaders to attend a face-to-face event and an international field mission in 2021.
