EOL co-Director Sandy Tudhope introduces climate initiative on Royal visit

On July 1st, Her Majesty The Queen and Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal visited the University’s newly-named Edinburgh Climate Change Institute in recognition of pioneering climate change initiatives.

The tour coincided with the announcement of the Edinburgh Earth Initiative (EEI) – introduced to Her Majesty The Queen by EOL co-Director Sandy Tudhope.

EEI will be a focal point for the University of Edinburgh’s world-leading teaching and research on climate. It will have an emphasis on supporting projects to deliver climate solutions, both locally and globally.

Drawing on the University’s expertise, the initiative will focus on four key climate change challenges: the future of energy; sustainable lands and seas; health in a warmer world; and socially just transitions.

EEI will also offer scholarship opportunities for students from communities most at risk from climate change, to better investigate ways to combat its effects.
