Dr Lucy Mead

Programme Coordinator & Communications Lead

Lucy is an ecologist and conservation scientist, specialising in the spatial and behavioural ecology of mobile marine animals, and evidence-based conservation of threatened species. For the last few years, her research has focused on the Critically Endangered angelshark (Squatina squatina) and the use of acoustic telemetry to track movement at different scales and monitor the impacts of environmental change. Lucy’s wider research interests include behavioural response to climate change in marine species, conservation effectiveness in a changing climate, and the ethical use of technologies in ecological research. She currently continues her research and conservation work with the Angel Shark Project and the NETLab (Network Ecology & Telemetry Lab).

Lucy completed her PhD at the Institute of Zoology (ZSL) in 2025. She has a BSc in Geography and an MSc in Marine Systems & Policies, both from the University of Edinburgh. She also has professional experience working in ecology consultancy and field conservation.

Outside of work, Lucy enjoys outdoor activities such as hiking, sailing, snowboarding and climbing, and is passionate about British wildlife.
