Shaha Hashim is the Chairperson of Maldives Resilient Reefs (MRR), a Maldivian NGO working to restore Maldivian coral reefs as climate-resilient ecosystems for the benefit of people, nature, and the economies that depend on them. She is also the Maldives Programme Manager for UK based charity, Blue Marine Foundation, which is affiliated with MRR. She has done considerable work in supporting the creation of new Marine Protected Areas, promoting responsible tourism and fisheries and engaging Maldivians in marine conservation. She spearheaded successful campaigns like #ProtectMaldivesSeagrass, #FishForTomorrow and #SaveOurSharks. She is currently finishing up her MSc degree on reconstructing historical baselines for marine habitats and species in the Maldives with University of Exeter, UK. She is a keen scuba diver who is driven by her passion to conserve the beautiful marine life of her country.
