Amber is a social-ecological marine scientist focused on how marine conservation and management can support both biodiversity and the well-being and livelihoods of coastal communities. Through her research, she seeks to dismantle traditional barriers between scientists and local communities, employing creative methods such as community-led filmmaking to enhance the usability and applicability of her work in local contexts. Amber has worked in diverse global contexts including Madagascar, Maldives, Mexico and Florida. Alongside her research, she works as an independent consultant with non-profit organisations on diverse projects at the intersection of marine health and coastal communities. In recognition of her work in remote regions, Amber was named a 2022 Explorer with the Scientific Exploration Society.
Amber is also Communications Lead and Editor of SeaVoice magazine, an online platform telling stories at the collision of ocean, science and culture.
Amber completed her PhD at the University of Edinburgh in 2024, where her thesis focused on the adaptation and resilience of small-scale fishing communities in Madagascar. She has an MSc in Marine Systems and Policies also from the University of Edinburgh
